Charles McCutchen Estate; Princeton, NJ. Sterling inkwell / inkstand box & pen rest is inscribed on the top - 1880 to one side compartment & 1905 to the other side compartment, along with the McCutchen Family Monogram to the center top of the piece, and per the provenance below, believed to represent the 25th Wedding Anniversary of his late grandparents. McCutchen's Estate included a vast collection of antique & fine collectibles that have been passed down over multiple generations.

Charles Walter McCutchen was a partner in the export flour merchant Holt & Co. And bought Camp Pinafore from prominent Brooklyn businessman Edward B.

Bartlett in 1894, changing the camp's name to Asulykit, a cheerful, if obscure, rendering of Shakespeare's As You Like It. McCutchen's grandmother was a member of the Shakespeare Society of Plainfield, N. Where the McCutchens were well-known citizens.

McCutchen married, April 28, 1880, Mary Isabella Simpson, at Annapolis, Maryland. A widow, Mary Isabella Simpson.

Died in her North Plainfield home. She was born in a frontier Army post, Fort Humboldt, Calif. In quarters which had been built and once occupied by Gen. She was the daughter of Harriet St.

Her father was an Army surgeon and a letter written by her mother indicated what life was like at the California fort when she told how Colonel Simpson had doctored a settler mangled by a grizzly bear in the back yard of the settler's home. Marked: Yes, hallmarked accordingly, both on the front exterior as shown, as well as the upper interior of all lids (also shown). Research showed the hallmark to be. B&G (Boardman, Glossop & Co Ltd, Birmingham, England) - BG over & over Co Ld into a quatrefoil.

Boardman, Glossop & Co whose last partners were William P. Davis was converted in 1895 in a limited liability company under the style Boardman, Glossop & Co Ltd. The firm was active at Clarence Works, Pond Street, Sheffield and in London.

Measurements: 5" w x 2.5" d x 3h (top of finial). Weight (Inclusive of all materials): 250grams.

Condition: Good Antique Condition, commensurate with age e. Surface marks & light scratches - no cracks, or repairs. Some oxidation present to interior & around/under base liner. Glass insert for center missing.
