English Victorian sterling silver chatelaine, having oval form body in openwork designs and wavy border, featuring scroll foliate patterns and blank shield in the center. It has 5 accessories, attached with chains, including retractable pencil case, long oval repousse needle case, ornate acorn form thimble case with gilt interior, scissors with lined repousse case and an engraved match safe.

Chatelaine is made by John Newton Mappin - Mappin & Webb, London, 1890. Weighing a total 172.5 grams or 5.5 ozs Troy, this fabulous antique set measures: - chatelaine is 3 7/8" long and 2 7/8" wide; - pencil case is 2 1/2" long and 3/8" in diameter; - needle case is 2 3/8" tall, 5/8" long and 3/8" wide; - thimble case is 7/8" in diameter and 1 3/8" tall; - scissors are 3 1/2" long, case is 2 3/8" tall and 3/4" wide at the top; - match safe is 1 5/8" tall, 1" wide and 3/8 thick. The soft, warm, original finish is present, with no buffing or machine polishing.
