Antique Victorian jet bangle with photo! Very rarely do I have the opportunity to offer a genuine 1860s Whitby jet let alone with photo of original owner wearing it! This stunning bangle features a Gothic influence buckle with an engraved sterling silver mount indicating a mourning piece. Each elastic set panel glistens with dark hues of jet as they reach toward the impressive, claw set buckle. It is times like this that I wish family record keeping was a little better! However its a rare and beautiful find, the photo an old copy(with slight water damage) so I will include it and a newer copy of I have made as the original was lost decades ago. Whitby jet, such an intriguing material and made popular for mourning jewellery when Queen Victoria chose it as part of her mourning dress and never to be confused with vulcanite, whitby jet has a silky smooth, shiny finish that its poorer counterparts can never match.
