This rare antique sterling silver sugar caster is absolutely an awesome piece of history. Fun fact: Sugar during this period was very expensive and would only be in the hands of the wealthy. The sugar caster is a small container, with a perforated top, larger than a salt shaker but similar in form, and it was used to sprinkle the sugar.
The maker, Samuel Wood c. 1704 - 1794, was a specialist maker of casters and cruets and this is a fine and rare example of his work. About this piece of history. Hallmarked for London circa 1757 (to my best knowledge/see markings).
