Antique Sterling Silver Child's Porringer and Matching Plate

  

From the early part of the 20th Century, this porringer and plate set was a christening/birth gift for a new family. Made of Sterling silver, by Gorham, the hallmarks and the patter number 5176-1 are visible on the bottom of both pieces. The porringer has 5 nursery story characters around the outside plus a section for engraving a name or initial (this piece is unmarked), and an Easter bunny in basket on the handle. Six other nursery stories are represented on the matching plate. The plate measures 5.75 inches in diameter and 5/8 inch tall.

The porringer/bowl measures 3.75 inches in diameter, with a handle that extends 1 5/8 inches. Both the plate and porringer are antiques of approximately 100 years and, as such, were used. There are no deep scratches, but there are several dents in the base of the porringer which are visible in the photos.
