During the Victorian era, it became fashionable to store pills in decorative and functional pill boxes like this one. The period was a time before heavy regulation of drugs, so it was not uncommon for people, including women, to dabble in opium pills and other mind and mood-altering substances. It was even common for people to carry their pills with them everywhere, literally worn on their person. In the case of this pill box, the missing clasp and crown dent suggests that it was once worn on a necklace. The box has a puffy heart shape with a crown at the topa symbol that meant ruler of my heart.
The box is Beautiful decorated in relief with depiction of Scrolls and Flowers. The design wraps around the entire piece on both sides.
