The item's hallmarks are stamped to the front of the buckle - there are full hallmarks to one half and a part hallmark to the other, which is perfectly normal on pieces like this. The item is hallmarked for Birmingham 1899 and has the silversmiths mark for Arthur & John Zimmerman, who were prolific silversmiths based in Regent Place, Birmingham. The item measurements are: Height : 6.5cm top to bottom - Width 5.9cm across (both halves joined) - the total unpacked weight is 23.3g. The condition of the item is good all round - naturally, given the fact it is 120 year old there are some normal signs of wear and use - viewed under magnification there are tiny scratches and contact marks to the silver, which is all perfectly normal given it was a worn item rather than an ornament - because the design is delicately pierced through in places there are hairs width gaps where a scroll may meet a leaf - this is more likely a result of the production process than damage, and again can only clearly be noticed under strong magnification and certainly does not detract whatsoever - with the addition of a pertersham fabric belt the item can still be worn today if desired. This a really nice example of a late Victorian buckle and would make a great addition to a collection - please study the images provided to satisfy yourself as to the condition of the item - if you have any further questions please ask and I'll be happy to oblige. The item "Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Nurses Buckle Birmingham 1899" is in sale since Saturday, April 6, 2019.
