This Victorian-era necklace features an abstract clam shell design done in rose gold on the front of the locket pendant. The clam shell is a common symbol used in the Christian/Catholic tradition, associated with all things water: baptism and the life water gives. The clam shell is also the token of the centuries-old Camino de Santiago, which is a Catholic pilgrimage to the burial place of St. The other aspects of this necklace are beautiful, too. The book chain is wonderfully chunky and metallic, complete with tiny star cutouts and large brads. The locket continues the design with similar, albeit smaller, brads around its border. Opening the locket, youll find a panel of glass protecting a lock of blonde hair. The design of the piece indicates that it was inspired by both the aesthetic movement and the Etruscan revival. 17 of chain, 2 3/4. Width 1 3/8" pendant; 3/4" chain.
